Librarianship + Washington DC = ?

The Library of Congress, of course. This was one of the highlights of my conference trip, and incidentally the only 'historic monument' I viewed while in DC. Fittingly so, I guess...

Either way, the institution is massive in more ways than one. Taking a special tour didn't allow the group to visit the stacks or special collections. But we were briefed on the intricate artwork that adorns the LOC... and it is breathtaking!

I immediately thought to myself, "With such fabulous visual diversions lining the halls of this place, how does one make it to the books... why even bother trying?!" But with regard to litereary interest, we did get to view the original Gutenberg bible [from behind a dense, temperature-controlled glass case]. That's what I call reverence for the Word of God.
