"Baby got BOOKS!"

I like big books and I can not lie...

HI-LA-RI-USS!!! I got a good belly laugh outta that one! I mean, who'da thunk that books would roll off the tongue as well as... well... booty? Apparently whomever it was is sure to make a killing offa that right here. And that aint all, folks!
This Cafepress librarian portal is pure hotness!!! I flipped thru at least 10 pages chock full o' professional paraphernalia with pizazz. Yeah. I'll definitely be ordering some stuff from here upon my ascension to the nirvana-esque rank of librarian... that's one KRUNK librarian to you... soon!

closing in

Today is March 19, 2008. Approximately 1 month from now, I would have completed my coursework for an MLIS. It's amazing how 2 years have literally flown by! Of course, each grueling hour spent reading or red-eyed in front of my computer did anything but fly by. Yet the light at the end of the tunnel seems that much more brilliant. And that's my ray of hope for the moment...

*sigh* I haven't had the time to keep up with this blog at all...pity! My perspectives on librarianship evolve almost daily, and I think it would be great if I got it all in print 'for the record'. So when my career is over, I can look back at my pre-librarian sentiments and say "Jeez, what an idiot!" LOL But for some reason, I feel like I'm learning more in this, my last semester of the program, than I have in the last 2 years. Taking a fundamental course at the end of your program should have that effect ... but I owe a lot to my chair[wo]manship of the local librarian association's public relations committee. In addition to rubbing shoulders--and possibly nerves--with my future colleagues, there come invaluable lessons in executive board service. For example, the Prez of the association works with me on the PR committee and often throws me some 'rope' to rein me and my often unchecked enthusiasm in. And at the last board meeting, I announce that "the committee has selected a new logo design; here it is!" (and I proceed to pass around a printout). So the Prez ever so calmly replies, "So what you mean is that you're showing the Board the design that the committee voted upon, and you're seeking our approval... is that what you're saying?" I simply smile and nod at my most recent lesson in executive etiquette. :o)

With 2 major events coming up and effectively branding the organization from scratch--logo, color scheme, etc--this experience has been nothing short of baptism by fire! But I have a great team supporting and teaching me at the same time, so I'm getting the best of both worlds. (and NO, that was NOT a reference to Hannah Montana!)
