Playing catch-up...already

It's barely 2 weeks into my first term and I'm already behind. I feel so lost--literally lost in information and cyberspace. Courseweb is cool, at first...and then the "click-fest" sucks you in like a vortex! It seems like every time I go on, I discover a new item or location for course materials; and subsequently 'misplace' where something else is found. Things that I thought I knew don't seem to make sense anymore. Is there any way humanly possible to keep up with the readings and podcasts? And while I'm ranting pathetically, why is that Kuhn guy so dense??!! AARRRGH!!!

I would attempt to take a yoga class to de-stress...but wait, that requires time...time that I don't have...time that would otherwise be spent stressing out in the first place. Maybe when the VI cohort links up this weekend, we can all have a group therapy session (or hold hands in a circle and sing Kum-ba-yah) *sigh* My only consolation is that there are other FastTrackers, and campus students, who feel as bewildered as I do.

...at least, I hope so.

Unbelieveable!

So what do you get when you're writing a book review...and you've never actually read the book? I guess my LIS2000 profs are about to find out (so will I once I get my grade back).

I thought that I ordered my books in time to get here, but apparently Walmart.com neglected to mention that "it can take up to 6 weeks for books to be delivered to the US Virgin Islands." One of those cheerful customer service reps was happy to let me know this AFTER I contacted them, freaking out about my books.

So now, after digesting various reviews and synopses of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, I am attempting to recreate the essence of the author's text and critique it appropriately. But when every document you read has it's own author's slant of the actual author, Thomas Kuhn, things get just a tad more difficult.

Well, pray for me as I complete my assignment which is due tomorow, by the way...

"I am a Librarian!"

...not quite yet, anyway. I just liked that quote as it was drunkenly exclaimed by Rachel Weisz's character Evie in "The Mummy". But at this point, I'm well on my way to becoming one myself (not a mummy--a librarian!). :op

Strangely enough, my mental image association with the word librarian was always one of a semi-elderly lady with spectacles sittling low on her nose and her hair pulled up into a tight salt-and-pepper bun--on a good day, maybe a pencil was even stuck in it; on a bad day, she hissed at you with her index finger cemented to her pursed lips. [I'm sorry, but I can't help it if my mental images are sexist and insensitive to senior citizens.] Yet now that I'm working towards an MLIS (Master's degree in Library and Information Science), I realize that librarians and their respective field(s) aren't stereotypical at all.

So for the next 2 years, I'm gonna find out exactly how un-typical library science is. Wanna come along for the ride? I'll definitely need the company!
